Watch the Road

When I was a passenger

I never looked at the road

Never considered it

I saw the landscape

Pushed to the sideline

Like vegetables

On a child’s plate

But it was where I lived

Before I became a driver

Fixed on the road

Where it goes

And if it’s the right way

I still take glimpses

Off to the side

But my eyes can’t linger

They have to return to the road

Even on the rare occasion

That I’m a passenger

My eyes are stuck on the road

And I’m starting to consider

If crashing into the scenery

Would be better

Than living with my vision

On the road
